The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a USA Weightlifting Athlete

We are thrilled to announce that Mighty Oak Athletic has become an official USA Weightlifting (USAW) sanctioned gym! This significant achievement underscores our commitment to providing the best training environment for weightlifting enthusiasts and athletes.

USA Weightlifting is the National Governing Body for Olympic weightlifting in the United States. As a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the International Weightlifting Federation, USAW is responsible for conducting Olympic weightlifting programs across the country. This organization selects top competitors to represent the United States in major international events, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, and Pan American Games.

Being a USAW sanctioned gym means we adhere to high standards in training and coaching. Our Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Michael Ockrim, is a Level 1 USA Weightlifting Coach. The Level 1 Club Coach course, which he completed, focuses on teaching the basics of Olympic lifts, including the snatch and the clean and jerk. This training ensures that coaches like Michael are equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively train athletes in these complex and technical lifts.

The benefits of training at a USAW sanctioned gym like ours are numerous. Athletes get the opportunity to train under certified coaches who understand the intricacies of Olympic weightlifting. They learn correct techniques, reducing the risk of injury and improving performance. Additionally, athletes training at sanctioned gyms have the chance to compete in USAW sanctioned events, offering them a pathway to national and international competitions.

We are located at 6424 S. Cass Ave., Westmont, IL 60559, and recognized as a part of the elite group of USA Weightlifting Clubs in the United States.

Working with a sanctioned gym and certified coaches is crucial for anyone serious about Olympic weightlifting. It ensures that athletes receive quality training, are well-prepared for competitions, and are part of a community that promotes the growth and integrity of the sport.

We invite you to join us in this exciting new chapter at Mighty Oak Athletic, where we are dedicated to helping you achieve your weightlifting goals in a professional, supportive, and safe environment.
