The Tribe | New Episode · Michael Ockrim
One Workout. A Life in Coaching.
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) · Author of Death Resistant · Founder of Mighty Oak Athletic
In the fall of 1992, Michael walked into a weight room almost by accident — with nothing better to do. Two days later he couldn't lift his arms. And something had shifted permanently.
That one workout became the foundation for 30+ years spent coaching, studying, and writing about health. In 2013, he founded Mighty Oak Athletic in Westmont, Illinois — built to give kids what he wished he'd had at 13: a real coach, a real barbell, and a place to get stronger away from screens.
"Death Resistant doesn't mean invincible. It means reducing the risk of the things that shorten a life."
Today he's a husband, father of four — kids at 15, 17, 19, and 21 — author of Death Resistant, and a lifelong student of comms, business, strength, and culinary arts. He keeps going back to being a beginner. In this episode, we find out why.
